ABOUT THIS EVENT
In preparation for Juneteenth celebrations, join us for a critical conversation about how the United States houses more people in U.S. prisons today than were enslaved throughout history, and what steps we can take to honor the legacy of liberation by ending mass incarceration.
We’ll discuss some of the major inflection points that led to systemic racism, examine how a flawed justice system and for-profit prisons support the expanding prison population, and touch on how the cycle of poverty continually feeds the system. Of greatest importance, however, is how we all have a moral obligation to make a change!
As part of Unlocked Voices, a program of the Multifaith Initiative to End Mass Incarceration (Multifaith EMI), we’ll…
- Preview the research-based narrative change program that is happening in communities and congregations around the country.
- Hear from Kevin Weeks, a returning citizen who will share his re-entry experiences and what we need to know to help make the transition smoother.
- Learn about available resources that support your grassroots efforts.
- Make a plan for making a difference in your community.
